I started traveling with Lex when he was 3 months old. Since then, he has done 8 round trips between Colorado, Tennessee, Minnesota, Illinois, and Florida. We have family and friends all over so it’s just been a part of our life. Every trip is different but here are some of my travel bag necessities for traveling with a toddler.
Books are a must have! I like get paperbacks with stickers so they don’t take up a ton of room and you have the stickers to play with too. For our most recent trip I got Hokey Pokey Elmo, Pup Fu Power, and Don’t Worry Little Critter (2 books in one). These are also the nighttime books for the trip as well.
Snacks are so important for us! I also bring a few treats as well-suckers, fruit snacks, etc. Extra clothes and plenty of diaper and wipes are also must-haves! You never know what might happen so I may over prepare a bit.
I bring plenty of activities. Coloring books with stickers and crayons. I also found these cute little Paw Patrol Play Packs in the dollar section at Target. Let’s talk about the Trolls Imagine Ink set-this was a life saver when our flight was delayed 45 minutes. Lex loved this because he could color it so easily. We bought a few different ones when we got to Tennessee and they kept him busy in restaurants and the ride home. Lex also loved this Despicable Me Coloring Set, it holds the pages and has mini markers.
I change the activities and books out every trip so it is all new stuff that Lex has never seen. This makes him excited to get to the airport to see what fun things I have in my bag.
Finally, I bring a magazine (for me), iPad, Kindle, and a camera. I still like to use a real camera when I travel for some good quality pictures. This one is the Canon G7X and it takes great video as well! I put a movie for me on the iPadย and one for Lex on the Kindle Fire. I typically pull this out last after activities are exhausted and it will get us through the final bit of the flight.
I hope this was helpful. It’s been a learning process figuring out what works for us when we travel. It’s normally just Lex and I so I put everything in a back pack to easily carry through the airport. And as an additional tip, I use a car seat cart to easily maneuver around the airport.
Except for the book titles, this is a traveling by myself kit! Haha
